Four historical markers have been placed on the Adair County Square.
The historical markers are paid for through donations to the Adair County Historical Society.
The Cyclone April 27, 1899
, was dedicated June, 25, 2007, on the southwest corner of the Adair County Courthouse. 
It recounts a devastating cyclone that struck Kirksville. 
The tornado touched down at about 6:20 p.m. April 27, 1899, approaching $250,000 in property damage. 
Other markers are The Battle of Kirksville, Adair County, and Adair County Courthouses.

 

The Adair County Historical Society was founded in 1976.

The Society is fulfilling its mission "to collect and preserve history of Adair County."

The Adair County Historical Society has collections of Adair County history artifacts, documents, narratives, and photographs. Feel free to ask us about research, educational programs, and tours.
